About Aleks
Aleks Pavlovic is a Chicago-based writer and artist. Aleks enjoys expressing herself through poetry, as she believes it’s a potent medium which allows for readers to use language as a mirror. Since she had been a child, through the present, Aleks has found the most solace in life through music, particularly through the genres of hip-hop and rap music. She is inspired by the freedom that characterizes these genres--how an artist performing a song might be talking about their own lived experiences, or maybe, they are not doing that. Either way, the listener can take away what resonates for them, and feel seen and understood, in a way that can be both private and collectively shared. Aleks believes that poetry operates as a similar vehicle, not only in form, but in function.
While a lot of Aleks’ writing has been composed from self-exploration, much of her writing is rooted in play, in the exploration of contrast, in the exploration of societal expectation, and how one might be able to reclaim their power when caught between layers of chaos and distortion.
Aleks’ background is in law. Aleks is a licensed attorney in the State of Oregon. Her legal education has been a training ground for distilling noise from that which she finds to be true.
When she has completed her distillation process, she likes to share her work with others.
